Cool Down at the Office This Summer

By News Minder at 07/18/08 13:46

The company Rebel Office Supplies has announced that it will be offering its Office fans at a seasonably low rate. So for all of you that are smoldering out there in the heat, maybe it would be a wise investment. See more here, Summer discounts for office fans announced at Rebel Office Supplies.

If not fans, cheap window air conditioners could be used to cool down at the office. There is always the security issue with those however. If nothing else drink lots of water to stay cool and hydrated.

Home Offices Don't Have to Look Like Offices

By News Minder at 07/18/08 13:33
Today, many people have the need for an office to store their computer, printer and fax machine. But at home, who wants to have a stuffy desk and filing cabinet. Make your home office a personal expression of you. Don't just go for functional pieces alone. Add some things that will create interest in the room. There are many office supplies that are creative and fun.

The other important factor is to make sure that you have the necessary privacy to do your work. Try to pick a room that is away from kids and pets so you can concentrate. For more on this topic read, Create a fun, functional home office | news-press.com | The News-Press.

Step it Up at the office

By News Minder at 07/17/08 13:04
I am an employer that is really getting sick and tired of my passive employees that claim they do not want to play the game of office politics. Well, news flash, it IS necessary. They think that they will advance just by being nice to everyone and doing what they are told by people who are not their superiors.

They really need a reality check because I need to have help that can sell an idea to a client. Our idea, not what a client may twist it around to be in the end. So many deals have gone bad that way. If you have employees that get kicked around and don't mind tell them to read this, Office politics: How to play the game - CNN.com.

Don't forget to recycle your cardboard too!

By News Minder at 07/17/08 11:19
I recently moved and had over 200 empty cardboard boxes that I had no idea what to do with. I didn't just want to throw them away so I tried to research ways to recycle them. I actually got a lot of info here, Recycle cardboard moving boxes - Living - The Olympian - Olympia, Washington.

I never knew but there are actually companies that take back boxes that are lightly used. So if you are moving, please think about recycling your cardboard.

Young Women have no respect for the workplace

By News Minder at 07/15/08 09:44
I am an intern for the summer at a law firm. Unfortunately, I am not the only one. There are other young women that have the same position that I do and dress like they are ready to walk the streets.

First of all, flip flops are NOT appropriate for work. And bra straps that hang out of sleeveless shirts are equally if not more inappropriate. Business owners really need to set a dress code for the office. Their dress is unacceptable. To read more about things small business owners can do visit, How much skin is too much at the office? - CNN.com.

Give up the unnecessary to save the environment

By News Minder at 07/14/08 14:33
All of the big companies are putting forth their going green campaigns to appeal to a nation that supposedly is trying to save an environment that we so selfishly polluted. Well, how about getting rid of the unnecessary products that harm the environment.

For example, why do we even sell paper that is not some percentage recycled. That really doesn't make sense. And those horrible cans of "air" that are supposed to dust of a keyboard are completely useless and dangerous for the environment. See Tell Costco to stop selling climate crack | Gristmill: The environmental news blog | Grist for more details. If you really want to save the earth, stop with the unnecessary products.

[Ed note: How much of what you consume is *REALLY* necessary? hahha... you are talking about putting a halt to the U.S. Economy and American Lifestyle if we are to give up all "unnecessary products"! ]

Warehouses of the Future

By News Minder at 07/14/08 14:22
My step-father was joking with me the other day about how when I have children, they will be cared for by robot nannies. I just laughed it off thinking that there is no way a robot is touching my babies. What about office supplies, shoes or pharmacy products though.

Stores like Staples, Walgreens, and Zappos are adopting a robot warehouse setup where the little bots bring the items to the people in a pac man sort of fasion. It sounds good, but I just wonder if people will be out of jobs because of this. To read about it visit, Newswise Science News | Three Engineers, Hundreds of Robots, One Warehouse.

[Ed note: I wonder if the bots care whether they sent you the right item... and if they send you the wrong item, I wonder if the bots care if they send you the wrong item again.. and again.. and again... oh... reminds of one distributor using such an automated system that went bankrupt.. I think because the bots could not send the customer the correct item often enough!]

Stop Coworkers from stealing office supplies

By News Minder at 07/14/08 14:10
I have often heard my coworkers talking about going to the supply cabinet to "borrow" pens or pencils. But recently, I have noticed that company Blackberries and laptops are being taken as well. Not just out of the cabinet, but to the home of the employee guilty of the theft.

I guess it isn't really surprising though because so many people take from the office and feel that they are entitled in some way to have the supplies. No way is what I say. There really seems to be a lack of respect in the office these days. This article, Human Resource Executive Online - Story, is one that explains some of the bad things about stealing from the office.

Ties and Pantyhose are a thing of the past

By News Minder at 07/11/08 14:19
In today's office environment, it is not likely that you will see a tie or a pair of sheer pantyhose. No, those are like ancient relics of work years past. Most companies today are going for more of a uniform type of look.

Places like Promo Depot sell polos and long sleeve shirts with the company logo. I seems that casual friday is seeping into the rest of the work week. To read more details about the new work dress code visit, Office Attire: Shredding restrictions.

TerraCycle is making Green Products

By News Minder at 07/11/08 13:54
TerraCycle is one of the many companies that is making an effort to reduce polution and save natural resources by introducing Green products. It is great that the larger companies out there are taking action. If places that large can make a change for the better, why can't one family or one person, even.

Products that they sell are things like cleaning supplies and solvents. I always wondered if things like that would work without all of the industrial chemicals, but testimonials have been put forth that say they do. To read more about the products and services of TerraCycle visit, TerraCycle Products and Going Green - Associated Content.
